COIT’s Guide to Removing Coffee Stains from Rugs

If you’re running out the door and happen to spill some coffee on an area rug, don’t worry, successful coffee stain removal is still possible. Here is a simple guide on how to remove coffee stains from a rug.

To remove coffee stains from a rug, follow these steps:

  1. Gently blot the coffee stain with a paper towel as soon as you discover it.
  2. Dilute the coffee stain with a bit of water, and continue to blot with a paper towel.
  3. If the coffee stain is still visible, use a small amount of white vinegar to further dilute the stain (one tbsp. per cup of water).
  4. Do not use stain removers on area rugs, as this may leave a permanent mark.
